Turbo Jam - Week 1, Days 3 & 4

So, 20 Minute Workout.  Sounds easy enough.

Not really.

My Wednesday and Thursday workouts were both 20 Minute Workout.  I was pro-active and did my Thursday one just a little while ago so I could write about both of them at once since I'll be really super busy when I wake up later.  We're going out to the campground again, and I swear, the kitchen WILL BE CLEAN before we leave.  I made a huge dent in it by doing the dishes already, but it needs more work.

On to the workout video.

In all honesty, it's not the workout that's hard.  It's me being uncoordinated.  I actually did 20 Minute workout three times during MY "day", once earlier around midnight and twice after 3:30 a.m.  Those of you who have read my blog, know that my "day" is when normal people are sleeping, so for you new readers, that's why some of this may sound strange.

So the moves are simple, the music is good, and Chalene Johnson really is fun to watch.  I just can't get my body to do what she's doing.  Now, by the third time around, I was a bit better at timing the punches and such, but when it came time to add in kicks is where I was getting all clumsy and lopsided.  I feel like I have four left feet and they are all going in opposite directions.

Now, for the effect it's having on my body and muscles, well, even Chalene says during the 20 minute workout "Bet it doesn't even feel like a workout, does it?".  And it doesn't.  I went from "do as many of these things in 30 seconds (or a minute) as you can" to dancing/kick-boxing/sculpting.  It just feels like...I don't know, I can't really describe it.  All I know is I'm about to say the one thing I never thought would come out of my mouth (or fingers in this case):

I really, really, really wish I was doing Insanity.

There, I said it.  I miss Shaun T, and I miss feeling like I actually worked out.  With 20 minute workout, even after doing it twice in a row, I didn't feel like I got a workout - at least, not what I'm used too.  I'm hoping that as my muscles learn these moves and I am able to stay in sync with Chalene, I will start to feel like I'm doing something besides feel ridiculous.

I'm done with the schedule for this week, but I'm probably going to pop in Learn & Burn tomorrow just to practice the moves some more to help with that muscle memory and coordination that I am seriously lacking.

On a completely different topic, our cat Yarly scared the crap out of me earlier.  I was outside having a smoke and he's waiting for me by the back door.  Well, he goes to walk into the kitchen and his back leg goes out on him and he lets out this absolutely awful sound.  Remember, it's like 4 in the morning when this happens, TH is at work, and I panic a little bit.  I kind of just held him up around his belly for a bit because he was stuck in a half step pose (kinda looked like a Hip Flexor Stretch cat-style actually), and then I made him lay down for a bit.

I sat on the floor and pet him, then he gets up like nothing happened.  So, I felt bad and gave him and Leela some treats just to make him feel better.  Not that Yarly needs them - he's like 22 pounds of huge furriness.  I do believe a trip to the vet may be in order though.

I probably won't write anything until after Monday's workout (camping and all), so we'll talk to you then!

Cat Does Insanity While Fighting Rats

From Facebook, as posted by my cousin.  No, I don't know where she found it, but it's not my picture.

Okay, the saying on this picture is cute and funny, but that's not why I decided to make a post about it.

That damn cat is doing a hip flexor stretch!!!

You know the stretches you do right after the warm-up and you go into hip flexor then you put your arm up in the air?  He's doing that.  He's even got one of his back feet a little more forward than the other.

Totally doing Insanity.

Now I realize I'm showing a bit more of my dorkiness by blogging about a CAT PICTURE, but ... you know if you saw it first you totally would have done it.  I wonder if the fuzz bucket up there can do any others moves.  This could tap into a HUGE feline movement to get fit.  Think of all those felines out there who are over weight and can't chase their toys or tails anymore.  This cat is their poster child.  He's working out AND making a joke AND ridding the world of tiny-rat-looking-dogs.  He's inspiring.

If this cat can do it, so can you!

Insanity Fit Test - Week 3

Today was my second Fit Test.

I improved!

It doesn't matter as much that every other measurement number went up, except my arms, which went a little bit down.

It doesn't matter that I gained 4 pounds since I weighed myself last week.

What does matter is that I was able to do 5 - yes FIVE - push-up jacks today.  It killed me, but I did them!!!!  (Super excitement there.)

What matters is that now I just have more incentive to work harder.

I felt better after doing the Fit Test today.  Beforehand, I was ticked off and down on myself for fallen off the wagon a couple times when out with family.  The fact that I improved (sometimes only by 2 reps, by hey, that's good!) showed me that I am NOT doing this because I'm a sadistic, insane person, and that it IS working.

With my first Fit Test, I was a pile of sopping, sweaty, hurty human.  Today, I wasn't.  I pushed myself harder than I did then, with better results - not breathing as heavy, no major muscle complaints, no urges to puke or cry.  Creepy Cats weren't staring at me (they have learned to GO AWAY when I'm working out), and, though it was 80 degrees in the house, I wasn't a pile of sopping, sweaty, hurty human.  Just mega sweaty.  :)

Here I come Week 3!  Better watch out!

*Words Go Here* (March 21, 2012)

I'm alive.  Barely.  My fingers hurt and it's hard to think, not to mention spell.

I haven't done this much physical crap since I was a sophomore in high school.  That was 1998, I think.  I might be wrong.

I didn't think it was possible to sweat this much.  It just won't stop.

Creepy Staring Cats have abandoned me for cool spots in the house...like the bath tub.  I'd love to be in the bath tub, but I'd have to clean it first and I really just can't.  It's 86 degrees in here, which is probably why I can't stop sweating.  Yesterday it was worse...88.

Really need to look into getting workout shoes.  My Sketchers are pinching & sliding around too much.

Must find cool spot & water.  Mucho water.

Warm-Up Day 2 (March 16, 2012)

The knee wasn't feeling good this morning after doing the Insanity Fit Test yesterday, so I decided to do the Hip Hop Abs Fasting Burning Cardio to give it a break.  I hate being uncoordinated; it makes me feel clumsy.  It didn't help that Creepy Staring Cats were laughing at me again, and laying in the middle of the living room floor while they did it.

It's a nice, somewhat simple workout.  It made me sweat and I wasn't doing nearly as much as Shaun was.  I don't feel worn out, kinda revved actually.  Like maybe I'll clean something before the husband gets home from work.  (Okay, we both know that is NOT going to happen, but thinking about it didn't give me a headache, just a "do I have too" feeling.)

Getting It In Gear (March 15, 2012)

T-minus 4 days until my Insanity begins!!!!!!

No, I'm really not that excited, I just like exclamation points.  Why?  Because I imagine what my cats would say if they could talk.  It's insane (haha) to be self-conscious in front of cats, but I was. Especially with all three of them in random spots around the room staring at me.  Creepy.  See, to get myself in the "groove" of keeping to a schedule, I've decided that today, Friday, and Saturday will be Insanity "Fit Test" days.  Have you ever done it?  Have you wanted to throw things at the TV while those three perky, yet sweaty-breathing heavy-I don't have an inch of fat on me, do those 8 1 minute tests and make them look so easy?
